Notes are placed on five lines and four spaces. On the treble clef, the lines from bottom to top are E, G, B, D and F.
Music uses seven letter names: A, B, C, D, E, F and G. Higher notes sound higher in pitch. Try the wheels to hear the difference.
Rhythm is the pattern of long and short sounds and silences. Beats help us organise music in time.
A scale is an ordered collection of notes. Chords combine notes played together. Detailed interactive lessons are planned for later versions.
A sharp raises a note by a semitone; a flat lowers it by a semitone. A rest means silence for a measured duration.
More chord charts, key signatures, intervals and musical terms will be added as the library develops.
Play it. Learn it. Love it.
Musical Motors is a friendly musical playground designed to help beginners and developing musicians discover notes, explore sounds and build confidence through interactive activities.
Play the workshop instruments freely, follow the Music School lessons, or test your skills in the Games Garage. If you want to understand the ideas behind the music, visit the optional Music Library.
There's no single right route through the app — explore at your own pace and have fun making music.
Pick a game. Every challenge builds a musical skill.
Difficulty levels will be developed later. All games are currently test versions.
Watch the four cars flash and play notes. Repeat their sequence. Each round adds a car — and the demonstration gets faster.
Prototype rules: one mistake ends the game. Each correct round adds one car to the existing sequence. Demonstrations become faster as rounds increase. The cars are temporary vector graphics.
Listen, rehearse against the clock, then perform the tune for real!
Choose a practice time, then press Start. During rehearsal, play the tyres freely. Your official attempt begins when time runs out or you press I'm Ready!
The practice clock starts AFTER the five-note tune finishes. Practice notes are not recorded. Once you begin your official attempt, you get five notes and one submission.
A place to look things up at any level. This is the planned structure; interactive reference material comes later.
Real music ideas, explained with tyres, sounds and games.
Yes! The note names and their positions on this treble-clef staff are the same as in real written music. Our tyres simply replace ordinary noteheads. We leave out some details, such as note lengths, rests and bar lines, while you learn to recognise pitches. Real sheet music also tells musicians when and how long to play.
